Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe (1886-1969) worked in the family stone-carving business before he joined the office of Bruno Paul in Berlin. He called his buildings “skin and bones” architecture. He sought a rational approach that would guide the creative process of architectural design, and is known for his use of the phrases “less is more” and “God is in the details.”
