This post is part of a series of interviews with creative YoVille players to be posted on YoVille Lounge.
Nandita WYID is the first place winner of ‘Best Chinese New Year Room’(2010), ‘Best 50’s Diner’(2009), and ‘Best Haunted Room’ (2009) official YoVille contests. What inspires Nandita? What tricks and tips does she have for us? Enjoy this short interview with her after the link.
Jil WYID: Nandita, How do you prepare a room before you start?
Nandita WYID: At first, of course, I have to select an empty room. It is very important how many doors there are, because you can put items onto doors, which is not possible on walls-for example a chair or a table. Also important to consider is the black area around the room where you can’t place a lot of items.

Jil WYID: What is your creative process? How do you begin?
Nandita WYID: I like to play with items from my inventory without knowing before what I exactly want to do or create-during playing and combining the items I see how I can use them. Sometimes I give myself a theme and try it out.
Jil WYID: Where to you gather your inspiration?
Nandita WYID: What helps me a lot was working as a ballet dancer. In the theater you work together with people who design costumes, stage sets, make up, and lighting. So every room I create is my little stage set.
Jil WYID: Who or what inspires you?
Nandita WYID: That can be everything from memories, music, art, movies, shop windows and watching what happens around me.
Jil WYID: How do you predict contest themes?
Nandita WYID: I look at the YoVille shops for new items they offer and of course, national days, important worldwide events, or holidays which are coming up.

Jil WYID: I’m sure all the readers would be interested in your design tip.
Nandita WYID: I think the best way to design things or rooms is to use the stuff you have already in your inventory and trying to combine them, also a look at “google” helps to find interesting pictures to support your fantasy.
Jil WYID: How would you describe your fashion style?
Nandita WYID: Its fun to change the outfit of my avatar every day, but there should be more possibilities to combine everything with each other, for example a skirt with pants, or swimsuit with pants, shoes… I like to wear clothes, make up, and wear my hair in the mood that I feel. This can be from crazy to classic, elegant.

Jil WYID: What is your honest opinion of YoVille’s newly released ‘Whimsical’ items? What do you think about the new ‘Whimsical House’? And, What types of new items would you like to see in YoVille?
Nandita WYID: I love the new ‘Whimsical’ theme. It inspires your fantasy and lets you plunge into a dreamworld to create fantastic rooms. When I was young one of my favorite books was ‘Alice in Wonderland’, And I still have it! The new items are looking very similar to the pictures in my book, although they could be more colorful. Lets wait and see what else will be released.
I am a little bit disappointed about the rooms inside the ‘Whimsical House’, they look exactly the same as all the other houses. The rooms should have been more crooked and oblique, not in a right angle like they always are. It would fit to the new items much better. The front of the house could have also been much more colorful. The best part of the house is the design of the roof.
I would like to have more lighting effects to work with, more possibilities with the rotations of the items-not only right or left, and something to hide the doors. It would be great if we could use clothes to make the rooms more alive, more lived in-for example hanging something over a chair, or shoes standing around somewhere. Also, interactive things would be interesting.
I love the designs of Nandita. You can tell she has the creative juices running in her. I have people tell me I’m good at decorating my houses, but it is in the realistic realm. I really wish I could create out of the box like Nandita does. I also agree with her about being able to mix and match with the clothes, and having them about the rooms. And the lighting. I wish we could make a room light or dark according to our design specs for the room. Keep up the good work Nandita!!!!
You can place an item anywhere in any room if you just know how!!!!! It’s simple!
Nandita is one of my favorite designers in YoVille and I’m proud to call her a friend! I love the interview…you both did an awesome job. I agree with the ideas for more dressing options and more rotation of items and to add my thought… I would LOOOVE LOOOVE LOOOVE to be able to change the size of items…that would be BLISS! Congrats Ladies!!
I love Nandita’s designs. The China Man is my favorite room ever. Very creative. This series is a great idea. I look forward to more interviews.
Very well done jil and nandita. You two always inspire me to do better. I am with you nandita on the house needing angled rooms. The roof top has that feel like your going to fall off the side of it. Bring the mad hatter costume!!!!
So happy for new winners, I know they put alot of work, its to bad, that myspace can’t go and put their places up, for weeks now myspace cant get in Yoville.com so we keep waiting. ty and again congrats
Great interveiw Nanda you are soooo clever
Nandita is one of my absolute favorite Yoville designers! I love this insight into her creative process. It’s just amazing how she “sees” items, I mean she looks at a sconce and sees an eye, that’s something that always amazes me, but even when she just decorates a room, her ideas are so clever! My faves? Her dress shop, her Island with cannibals and her Santa’s workshop among my many favorites stand out. She puts in tiny details with humor that seem so simple that make you slap your forehead, saying, “Now why didn’t I think of that?” Like her monkey eating the watermelon, or her butterflies! Very happy you’re on my friend’s ladder Nandita!
Nandita is the Best. Her ideas are original and brilliant. Nandita use of items are very clever, I’m just amazed at how she can visualise it. My favourite room is little Holland and her dress shop. Your No.1 Fan xx
